The Ray Jays rallied from a 2-1 deficit to fly past Tioga 3-2 on Thursday night at Wildrose-Alamo High School in Wildrose.

Ray won 25-19, 18-25, 22-25, 25-14, 15-7 in the District 16 matchup.

The Jays (1-1 in District) and Pirates (1-1) each brought big hitting attacks into the match, but Ray's shots found the floor just a bit more often.

"We weren't hesitating, we were just going for it," said Ray coach Michelle Dolan. Each team had two players with double-digit kills. Senior Samantha Heier had 20 kills for the Jays and freshman Olivia Corcoran had 19. Tioga countered with Jordan Larson and Andriana Uchany with 14 each.

"They went really well," said Tioga coach Amanda Zerr. "They played really hard. I think there's a lot of pressure when these towns separate, it's really competitive."

Ray put both the fourth and fifth games away quickly, jumping out to a 19-10 lead in the fourth and 7-2 in the rubber game. After a few timeouts, Tioga tried to come back but could only hold the deficit at five before a quick run ended the game with Ray's Kayla Thompson recording the final point with an ace.
