The hosting Williston All-Stars survived the first weekend of the 13-15 year-old Babe Ruth "A" state tournament by bouncing back from a Friday loss with a 16-13 victory on Saturday against Devils Lake.

Williston advanced in the one-loss bracket and will play again on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

The first day of the tournament was threatened by rain, but some quick work by the grounds crew at Aafedt Stadium saved the day, with the last game starting at almost 10 p.m. Sunny skies were the rule on Saturday, and the same is expected for the rest of the tournament, which will run through either Monday or Tuesday.

Devils Lake 13 Williston scored in every inning as the two teams battled back-and-forth, and Isaac Erickson's two-run double in the bottom of the sixth gave Williston the lead for good.

"I thought we played real well," said coach Logan Jangula. "We put the bat on the ball."

Every spot in the Williston lineup had at least one hit in the game. Lane Huck was a home run short of the cycle, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs. Chad Brown was 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs, and Cody Laber was 3-for-3 with a walk. Brady Viall, Alex Haaland and Mason White had two hits each.

Williston fell behind 3-0 in the top of the first, then rallied for four in their first-at bat, led by five consecutive two-out hits.

Brown had a two-RBI single in the second to make it 6-3, then Devils Lake countered with a seven-run third inning to take a 10-6 lead.

The Williston All-Stars chipped away with a run off a wild pitch in the fourth, then tied it in the fifth with three runs, including Brown's third consecutive RBI single. Huck's triple sent home a run in the sixth inning, and he would eventually score to give Williston a 12-10 lead. Devils Lake retook the lead in the top of the sixth, but Williston finished the scoring with four in the bottom of the sixth.

Halaand, who pitched the whole game for Williston, finished the game in the top of the seventh by inducing a 5-4-3 double play with one out and a runner on first, the second successfully turned double play of the game for Williston.

Devils Lake was eliminated from the tournament with the loss.
